Scholarship Benefits
The American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship offers two types of awards:
- Full Scholarship:
- Covers all billable AU expenses (full tuition, room, and board)
- Duration: Renewable for four years of undergraduate study
- Partial Scholarship:
- Valued at up to $40,000 per year
- Duration: Renewable for four years of undergraduate study
Note: The scholarship does not cover non-billable expenses such as mandatory health insurance, books, airline tickets, and miscellaneous expenses (approximately $4,000).
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this fully-funded scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be an international student (not a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or dual citizen)
- Have a minimum 3.8 GPA equivalent or be in the top 10% of your graduating class
- Demonstrate a commitment to leadership, volunteerism, and community service
- Meet one of the following English proficiency requirements:
- TOEFL iBT: 95+ (all subscores 20+)
- IELTS: 7.0+ (all subscores 6.0+)
- SAT Reading: 33+ minimum subscore
- ACT English: 29+ minimum
- PTE: 65+ minimum
- Duolingo: 125+ (all subscores 115+)
- Cambridge Assessment English: 185+ (all subscores 169+)
- Be currently enrolled in secondary/high school and graduating by June 2025
- IB students: Plan to graduate with a full IB diploma with at least 3 HL subjects
- British A-Levels students: Complete at least 3 A levels and finish 13 years of study before August 2025
Important: You are not eligible if you:
- Are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or dual citizen
- Have already begun post-secondary studies
- Graduated from secondary school before 2023
Application Process
To apply for the American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship:
- Complete the AU EGLS application
- Submit the Common or Coalition Application
- Complete the international admissions process
Deadline: All application materials must be submitted by December 1, 2024.
Note: Applicants must apply for Regular Decision for fall 2025 (not Early Decision or Early Action).
